Stabbing on the soccer field: An argument that started with splashing water left a teenager paralyzed
According to the indictment, the confrontation ended with a handshake, but the next day the brothers (aged 15 and 16) arrived at the soccer field with a knife, tear gas, and brass knuckles. The 14-year-old, who was beaten and stabbed in the neck and back, now uses a wheelchair and suffers from paralysis on the left side of his body: "It is hard to believe he will return to a normal routine."
The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment in the Nazareth District Court for minors against two brothers, teenagers aged 15 and 16, for assaulting and stabbing a 14-year-old teenager — leaving him paralyzed on the left side of his body — at a soccer field in the town of Yafia. One of them is charged with attempted murder after stabbing the teenager in the neck and back.
The indictment, filed by Adv. Ragad Shadafna of the Northern District Attorney's Office, reveals that a few days earlier, a confrontation had developed between one of the defendants and the 14-year-old, which ended with the two reconciling and shaking hands. Despite this, the brothers arrived at the field equipped with a knife, tear gas, and brass knuckles. It was further noted that one of the defendants hit the complainant in the head with brass knuckles, and his brother sprayed tear gas at him and at teenagers who tried to intervene. According to the indictment, while the teenager was lying on the ground, the defendant stabbed him in the neck and twice in the back with the intent to cause his death. Afterward, the two fled and hid for about two weeks until they turned themselves in to the police.
The attack left the 14-year-old with severe injuries. He was sedated and intubated for several days. Today he is in rehabilitation, uses a wheelchair, and suffers from paralysis on the left side of his body. The defendants are charged with offenses of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, obstruction of justice, and possession of a knife or brass knuckles for an unlawful purpose. One of them, as mentioned, is also charged with attempted murder and threats.
Shirin Abd al-Malik, a youth officer at the Nazareth station, said:
"Two brothers stabbed a teenager three times following an argument that started with splashing water. This is a serious incident in which a teenager was very seriously injured and is still receiving medical treatment, and it is hard for me to believe that he will return to a normal routine."
She said that the three, the two defendants and the attacked teenager, are neighbors and the argument between them was after they splashed water on each other. According to her, "Although the parties reconciled, the next day the brothers attacked the teenager and stabbed him three times, causing him severe injuries and then fleeing the scene. As part of the investigation, the police worked to locate them after they tried to escape from the neighborhood. We arrested the parents several times in order to reach their sons. Later, the two brothers were arrested, and today they are in custody and are expected to stand trial for their actions."
