American hedge fund Community Fund, managed by Jeremy Blank, has returned to purchasing shares in oil refiner Bazan following a sharp stock drop triggered by abnormal pollution discovered at its facilities. Earlier this week, after Bazan shares fell by approximately 7%, Community Fund acquired shares worth about 23 million NIS, re-establishing itself as a substantial shareholder with a 5.3% stake valued at roughly 342 million NIS.

Quick Recovery and Profit

The recent acquisition has already yielded fruit as Bazan shares rebounded by 8% over two days, netting the fund an immediate profit of about 2 million NIS on the transaction. In recent months, the hedge fund had sold roughly a quarter of its Bazan holdings for about 100 million NIS, unlocking significant value after purchasing shares last year for roughly 170 million NIS. Since that initial investment, Bazan's stock has surged by more than 150%.

"Community Fund's re-entry demonstrates strong confidence in Bazan's underlying market fundamentals despite temporary environmental setbacks," market analysts noted.

Surging Refining Margins

Community Fund is led by Jeremy Blank, who previously spearheaded York Capital's activities in Israel. Bazan's valuation has climbed to nearly 6.5 billion NIS, driven primarily by a sharp jump in global refining margins. These margins expanded largely due to disruptions in Russian refinery production resulting from Ukrainian drone attacks, alongside regional security tensions increasing the global demand for jet fuel and diesel.
