A 67-year-old Colombian woman has turned her deep passion for neighborhood gossip into a highly lucrative business that has gone viral across the internet. Miriam, a resident of Armenia in the Quindío department of Colombia, has established a controversial enterprise based entirely on monitoring and documenting the lives of those around her. From relationship troubles and secret romances to loud arguments and everyday events, she collects every scrap of information and sells it to curious clients willing to pay to know. "I simply love gossip," she admits with a smile, as reported by Asianet Newsable.
The Professional Gossip and Her Methods
In an interview with content creator Lady Daniela, which gained widespread resonance in the media in Colombia and Chile, Miriam defined herself as a professional gossiper. "I can sit and talk with you, but my little ears are well positioned to listen to what other people are saying around me," she explained regarding her operating method.
The tariffs in Miriam's business vary depending on the interest and value of the story: small pieces of information and routine gossip are sold for just a few thousand Colombian pesos, while intimate, juicy, or detailed information is priced at much higher amounts. One of her most profitable gossip events yielded no less than 700,000 pesos.
According to her, her main advantage is the ability to observe from the sidelines: she constantly sits outside her house, spies on what is happening in the street, and catches conversations. In addition, she always walks around with a dedicated notebook where she writes down precise details in real-time, to ensure she does not forget anything and to back up what she tells clients.
The Investigation Board and Real Estate Success
Inside her home, Miriam revealed a wall board resembling a police interrogation room, packed with photographs and detailed lists about neighborhood residents. Some of the photos, she claims, document people in the act during extramarital affairs. She treats this collection as a personal documentary archive of everything happening in her surroundings.
Miriam claims that her unusual business generated enormous profits that allowed her not only to cover current living expenses but also to purchase two houses of her own. To prove her success, she presented a large piggy bank packed with coins and bills, which she says represents her income from selling information. She emphasizes that she takes her role very seriously and does not spread rumors without solid proof and evidence—a reputation that earned her the local nickname "Queen of Gossip."
"Gossip is my life, it flows in my blood," she declared.
Her activities are not viewed favorably by everyone, and some neighbors sharply attacked her, accusing her of blatant invasion of privacy. Miriam, for her part, is unfazed by the criticism and says that even those who previously protested her actions tend to return to her as paying clients simply because curiosity gets the better of them.
