Clalit and Check Point Partner in Multimillion-Shekel AI Security Deal
Clalit and Check Point have launched a multimillion-shekel partnership to develop an AI Gateway, securing hospital medical systems against data leaks and cyber threats.
Clalit Health Services and Check Point Software Technologies have joined forces in a multimillion-shekel strategic partnership to develop an advanced AI security gateway. The collaboration aims to address critical cybersecurity challenges in the healthcare sector, particularly preventing medical staff from inadvertently leaking sensitive patient data into public artificial intelligence engines like ChatGPT, while blocking sophisticated external threats.
The AI Gateway Solution
Under the joint venture, the two organizations are developing a specialized product named "AI Gateway." This system will function as a digital border control and real-time security filter, monitoring data flow between hospital medical systems and external AI tools. Avivit Kotler, Clalit's national chief privacy and cyber officer, noted that the healthcare sector has experienced a dramatic surge in cyberattacks originating from Iran and its regional proxies, especially since the onset of the war and the notorious ransomware attack on Hillel Yaffe Medical Center.
"In recent years, with an emphasis on the war period, we are experiencing hundreds of percents more cyberattack attempts from Iran and its proxies than usual—tens of thousands of attacks per year," said Avivit Kotler.
Expanding Safe AI Integration
While Clalit already utilizes internal AI platforms such as Aidoc for medical imaging and local models for disease detection under strict organizational regulations, the proliferation of free generative AI tools in clinics created an elevated risk layer. The new security gateway will enforce privacy laws and establish clear guardrails, ensuring that autonomous AI agents and third-party applications integrated into hospital networks cannot extract or transfer sensitive patient information to external servers.
Clalit provides a vast development and implementation environment touching 5 million patients in Israel, while Check Point retains the intellectual property rights to commercialize the platform globally. Kotler reassured stakeholders that Check Point will only have access to non-sensitive metadata, ensuring patient confidentiality remains fully protected. The system is scheduled for a broad organizational rollout in the first quarter of 2027.
