A six-year-old Chinese girl named Lian Yongei has shattered the women's Rubik's Cube world record, achieving an average solve time of just 4.27 seconds.
A six-year-old Chinese girl has shattered the women's world record for solving a Rubik's Cube, achieving an average time of just over four seconds across official competitions.
Breaking Records in China
Young Lian Yongei broke the global women's record twice during September at official World Cube Association (WCA) tournaments held in Wuhan and Guangzhou. In average solve categories, competitors must complete the puzzle five times, with the final score calculated by dropping the fastest and slowest times and averaging the remaining three. At her first event, she posted an average of 4.52 seconds, followed by a stunning 4.27-second average at the second tournament. According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, she is the first female competitor in history to break the 4.5-second average barrier.
"She used to be an introverted child, and now she is full of confidence wherever she goes," said her mother, Lin Yangxi.
Dedication and Daily Practice
Lian's mother shared that solving the popular puzzle is just one of many extracurricular activities the young prodigy enjoys alongside dance and music. First picking up a Rubik's Cube at the age of four—when it took her 90 seconds to complete—she eventually dedicated herself to rigorous daily practice. Today, she has memorized more than 1,300 algorithmic movement sequences and trains two to three hours every single day.
