The surge in fuel prices and impending tax hikes in Israel are colliding with a massive global trend: Chinese automakers are flooding export markets amid a fierce domestic price war. This dynamic is making the Israeli dream of owning a modern, safe, highly equipped, and ultra-efficient new car more realistic than ever.

In the first eight months of 2026, China exported approximately 7.2 million vehicles, with the monthly pace exceeding one million units over the past quarter. Around 20% of these exports carry European type approval, representing an unprecedented wave of vehicles that must find buyers at nearly any cost. Consequently, the upcoming Paris Motor Show will be packed with new Chinese models and brands featuring rock-bottom prices that threaten to overshadow their European counterparts. While this shift carries geopolitical implications, manufacturers are left with little choice.

Israeli car buyers are already feeling the initial tremors of this approaching tsunami. Psychological price thresholds across various segments are in a free fall, and every newly launched model undercuts its predecessors. For consumers looking to purchase a vehicle insulated from fuel price spikes on a budget previously reserved for battered used cars, this is exceptionally good news. Below are several standout models of this "people's revolution" premiering at the Paris exhibition.

Smart #2: European Nostalgia, Made in China

The original Smart vehicles were produced in a French factory until about three years ago, after which production shifted to China under the brand's new controlling owner, Geely. The official European debut in France of Smart's new, ultra-compact car—which faithfully recreates the original micro-car concept—represents a full circle moment.

Measuring just 2.75 meters long and 1.55 meters high, it is a micro-city car built for two. Beneath its nostalgic exterior lies a modern, sophisticated cabin packed with displays, powered by a fully electric 80 hp motor and a 35.7 kWh battery delivering a WLTP range of up to 300 kilometers. The big question remains the pricing. While the original Smart positioned itself as a "micro-premium" product with a steep price tag, if its spiritual successor arrives in Israel with a "Chinese price" starting around 90,000 shekels post-tax, it has every chance to become a lasting success rather than a passing gimmick.

Leapmotor B03X: Compact Crossover at a Bargain

Stellantis will maintain a massive presence at the exhibition, but a significant share of attention is expected to go to the new Leapmotor vehicle distributed in Europe by Stellantis. The electric B03X, slated to arrive in Israel later this year, expands the bottom end of the brand's crossover lineup. It measures 4.27 meters in length, 1.63 meters in height, and features a 2.6-meter wheelbase ensuring a reasonably spacious interior.

The minimalist interior houses the standard array of digital displays, complemented by generous equipment levels typical of Chinese imports and a respectable 195 hp motor. The premier version unveiled so far is equipped with a 53 kWh battery offering a relatively modest range of up to 382 kilometers. However, European pricing starting around 25,000 euros post-tariffs translates to an estimated Israeli price tag of roughly 120,000 shekels, subject to exchange rate fluctuations.

BYD Dolphin G Plug-In: 1,000 Kilometers Between Fuel Stops

One of BYD's most strategically important vehicles for the European and Israeli markets will officially launch at the show. Positioned somewhere between a tall supermini and a compact crossover, the model measures 4.16 meters long, 1.57 meters high, and has a 2.61-meter wheelbase.

The cabin aligns with BYD's latest generation design language, integrating screens, surround-view cameras, active safety suites, and premium touches like electric seats and faux-leather upholstery in higher trims. Its primary selling point is a powerful, highly efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain combining a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with either a 7.4 kWh or 18.3 kWh battery, yielding an electric-only range of up to 40 or 105 kilometers. The company claims drivers will only need to visit a fuel station once every 1,000 kilometers.

With a base price in Europe running about 3,000 euros (11.1%) lower than the larger Atto 2 utilizing the same powertrain, the base version could debut in Israel at roughly 125,000 to 127,000 shekels—opening an entirely new pricing category for plug-in vehicles independent of charging infrastructure.

Forthing V6: Plug-In Crossover for Large Families

Chinese manufacturers are also targeting budget-conscious large families. The European version of the Forthing family crossover, sold locally in China as the V6, will debut with full European type approval in both pure electric and long-range plug-in hybrid variants.

Spanning 4.83 meters in length with an impressive 2.9-meter wheelbase, the vehicle accommodates seven passengers across three rows while retaining a 513-liter cargo capacity even with all seats occupied. The electric variant launching in China this month features a 60.5 kWh battery delivering an estimated WLTP range of 420 to 450 kilometers. With base Chinese pricing starting near $15,000, post-tax and logistics expenses in Israel could position the entry-level price around 160,000 to 170,000 shekels, establishing a new benchmark for large family plug-in vehicles.

Geely EX2: Replicating Domestic Magic in Europe

As China's best-selling electric vehicle, a charming little supermini named the EX2 is set to test its appeal in Europe. Measuring 4.13 meters long, 1.58 meters high, and boasting a family-sized 2.64-meter wheelbase, the model is driven by a modest 116 hp single motor.

Initially marketed in Europe with a 47 kWh battery providing a WLTP range of up to 345 kilometers, the top-tier version retails in heavily taxed Germany for approximately 24,000 euros. Israeli consumers can anticipate an introductory price ranging between 110,000 and 120,000 shekels.
