Significant Changes at Israel Railways: Stations to Close Temporarily
Due to extensive infrastructure works starting next weekend, train traffic in the south will be significantly altered and central lines will be shortened. Find out which stations will be closed and how shuttle services will operate.
Israel Railways is preparing to carry out significant infrastructure works in the Ashdod area, intended to improve track infrastructure and ensure safer travel. Following these essential works, many passengers residing in Ashdod, Ashkelon, and the surrounding area will need to adjust their travel plans on Thursday and Friday, August 27 and 28. This move will entail changes in train frequency and lead to the temporary closure of central stations.
During the work period, the Ashdod Ad Halom and Yavne East stations will be completely closed for service. Train traffic on the southern axis will also be modified. The busy line connecting Ashkelon to Binyamina will be shortened, beginning or ending its journey at Rehovot station only. At the same time, the Beersheba-Herzliya line, which usually passes through the Western Negev stations, will be split into two separate segments. One segment will run between Beersheba and Ashkelon, while the second will operate between Yavne West and Herzliya.
Despite the temporary inconvenience, the railway company is offering alternatives to ease the burden on the public. Passengers traveling to or from Beersheba will be able to use the line passing through Kiryat Gat to reach the center comfortably. In addition, the company will operate a free shuttle system to bridge the closed stations. Regular service and familiar routes will return to normal on Saturday night, August 29.
