The Tyrol region, located in western Austria in the heart of the Alps, is one of the most beautiful travel regions in the country. The most convenient way to reach it is by flying to Munich, Salzburg, or Zurich. We often choose to land in Vienna due to the convenient flight prices, and in a trip of about two weeks, you can also combine the Wachau Valley or the Salzburg region and the lakes along the way. In Tyrol, you will find countless valleys and travel areas — from Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis in the west, through Innsbruck and its little sister, the town of Hall in Tirol.

Tips for the road

It is recommended to rent a car. If you land outside Austria and enter it by car, you must purchase the Vignette sticker — a toll sticker that allows driving on Austria's highways — at gas stations near the Austrian border. Its price is about 12.8 euros for 10 days. Observe the speed limits — enforcement in Austria is very strict. You can also save on refueling: prices in the towns are usually lower than those at stations on the highways. Another tip: if you hear sirens on Saturday at 12:00, don't be alarmed. It is a weekly integrity check of the civil alert system and not an emergency situation, so you can continue the trip as usual.

Accommodation and benefit cards

In Tyrol, there is a wide range of accommodation options for every budget. In many of the accommodation places, you will receive regional benefit cards, which grant free entry or significant discounts to dozens of attractions. Note that most hotels are not air-conditioned, but thanks to the alpine climate, the nights are usually cool and pleasant. Note: the hotel prices appearing in the article are for a couple per night in August.

Ötztal Valley

The Ötztal Valley, which stretches for about 65 kilometers in the heart of the Alps, is in my opinion one of the most impressive and diverse valleys in Tyrol. The Ötztal Summer Card is one of the most worthwhile cards in Austria, including cable cars, buses, and entry to pools and museums.

Aqua Dome: The spa baths are among the most beautiful in Austria. For summer card holders, a 15% discount is given on entry prices in July and August (free in June, September, and October).

Extreme Park (Area 47): Everything an extreme enthusiast dreams of. Entry is free for summer card holders. I highly recommend the family rafting and the zipline.

James Bond cable car: The Gaislachkoglbahn leads to a peak at 3,048 meters, where the 007 Elements attraction awaits.

The Pitztal Valley is a hidden gem. If you are staying in one of the valley's towns, you get the summer card for free.

Hochzeiger: An adventure mountain with activity stations, games, and mountain carts. Rifflsee lake: One of the most beautiful lakes I have seen in the Tyrol region, surrounded by glaciers and suitable for strollers.

Pitztal Glacier: The cable car will take you to the highest cafe in Austria, at a height of 3,440 meters, with a spectacular view.
