A decade after the trail descending from the Gafni lookout in the Nahal Ayun Nature Reserve was destroyed following winter floods, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority has completed its restoration and reopened it to visitors. The work included restoration, regulation, and development of the trail route, and it is now possible to walk a circular route again, which enriches the experience of visiting the reserve. The renewed trail leads hikers to new observation points overlooking the Tanur Waterfall and the landscapes of the Hula Valley, returning one of the most sought-after hiking trails in the region to use.
Alongside the opening of the trail, visitors can choose between three hiking routes of different lengths and difficulty levels: a long route passing through the reserve's four waterfalls, the renewed medium route which is about 1.5 kilometers long and offers a circular experience, and a short, accessible route leading to the Tanur Waterfall.
The opening of the trail is part of the ongoing efforts of the Israel Nature and Parks Authority to restore damaged infrastructure, improve the visitor experience, and expand hiking options for the public, while maintaining natural values and safety. The Nahal Ayun Nature Reserve, one of the northernmost reserves in Israel, has returned after a long period in which visits were affected by the security situation, and offers travelers the opportunity to enjoy one of the unique natural sites in the Upper Galilee.
Naji Rashash, director of the Nahal Ayun Nature Reserve at the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, says:
"The reopening of the trail allows visitors to enjoy a fuller and more diverse hiking experience in one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Israel. After complex restoration work, we managed to return to the public a circular route that combines spectacular views, safe walking, and better accessibility to the nature experience. We invite travelers to come, enjoy the beauty of Nahal Ayun, and help us preserve natural values by walking only on marked trails."
