The Heavy Vehicle Unit of the Traffic Division apprehended 12 buses from transport companies this morning (Monday) in the Har-Tov area near Beit Shemesh, as they were found to have safety defects that could have endangered passengers. The operation was conducted as part of increased enforcement on the roads during the summer vacation period, which is characterized by traffic congestion and an increase in the number of vehicles.
During the inspections, six buses were taken off the road after serious mechanical defects were found. In other buses, various offenses were identified, including licensing issues, tachograph defects, and in one case, a driver was caught using a mobile phone while driving.
Police emphasized that the safety of public transport is a shared responsibility of transport companies and drivers. "A bus that is not in good condition or a driver who does not adhere to the law can turn a routine trip into a disaster," the statement read. Authorities further noted that the Traffic Division will continue with determined enforcement activities with the goal of ensuring that every passenger reaches their destination safely and to prevent road accidents that could cost human lives.
