CBS 60 Minutes Reports on West Bank Land Disputes and Settler Actions
CBS News program 60 Minutes broadcast an investigative report examining allegations of settler land displacement tactics and nationalist crime in the West Bank.
The CBS News investigative program 60 Minutes aired a report detailing allegations that certain Israeli settlers use livestock to displace Palestinians from their homes in the West Bank.
According to the broadcast, settlers drive herds into Palestinian communities to establish de facto ownership over the land through grazing patterns. Mordehai Minster, a West Bank farm owner featured in the report, stated that the method serves to mark territorial boundaries and assert ancient rights to the land, despite acknowledging incidents of aggressive behavior among some young individuals.
The report, produced by journalist Lesley Stahl, also documented violent confrontations involving young settlers known as Hilltop Youth, including an incident where a local resident's nose was fractured. The program highlighted testimony from the Faraj family, who stated that settlers established an encampment on their property and utilized various pressures to force residents to abandon the area.
Data from the IDF cited in the report indicated a significant rise in nationalist crime incidents, growing from 352 cases in 2019 to 1,072 cases in 2023. Human rights organizations noted that a high percentage of related police files are closed without indictments.
