Because of a cigarette: 19-year-old attacked on the Eilat promenade
The young man was brutally beaten by a group of 20 to 30 youths and taken to the hospital. His family has filed a police complaint. His mother stated: "We must not normalize such events."
A 19-year-old man was attacked early Sunday morning by a group of youths on the Eilat promenade. He was beaten and transported by ambulance to Yoseftal Hospital for medical treatment. His family has filed a formal complaint with the police, and the victim claims to have identified one of the attackers.
His mother, Yael, explained that her son was on his first vacation in Eilat with friends shortly before his scheduled enlistment in the IDF. Around 5:00 AM, while they were on the promenade, a teenager, approximately 15 years old, approached them and asked for a cigarette.
"My son told his friend not to give him a cigarette because he is a minor. Following this, the teenager called a large group, and my son was attacked by 20 to 30 youths. He was beaten all over his body and sustained severe kicks," his mother recounted.
According to the family, they have filed a complaint with the Eilat police, but have yet to receive updates on the investigation's progress. "My son identified one of the participants to the officers, but we do not know what actions have been taken since," she said.
The mother expressed concern that security camera footage from the area might be deleted before investigators can collect it:
"It is unacceptable that people cannot go out and feel safe. We must not normalize such events. If the police had not arrived at the scene in time, I am afraid to think how this could have ended."
A police response will be provided as soon as it is received.
