Camilo Séptimo Keyboardist Jonathan Meléndez and Family Found Shot Dead in Mexico
Jonathan Meléndez, keyboardist for Mexican indie-rock band Camilo Séptimo, was found shot dead near Mexico City alongside his pregnant wife, daughter, and nanny. Two suspects have been detained.
Jonathan Meléndez, the keyboardist for the prominent Mexican indie-rock band Camilo Séptimo, has been found shot dead in his penthouse near Mexico City. The victims of the attack also include his 35-year-old pregnant wife, Ana Paula, their 3-year-old daughter, Sofia, and the family's 21-year-old nanny, Alayda Romero Victorio.
The couple's 6-year-old son was found alive and physically unharmed at the scene. According to state prosecutors, the fatal shooting occurred on Tuesday evening between 5:30 PM and 7:40 PM.
Band and Family Mourn the Loss
Members of Camilo Séptimo shared a heartbreaking farewell message on their official Instagram account:
"With deep sorrow, we say goodbye to our dear brother Jonathan Samuel Meléndez Ochoa, his wife Ana Paula, and his daughter Sofia. They will live forever in our hearts. We celebrate your music, your life, and your light. Rest in peace."
The nanny's aunt, Lorena Victorio Cabrera, told CNN that her niece was a highly hardworking and responsible young woman who did not deserve such a fate.
Arrest of Business Partner
Mexico's Secretary of Public Security, Omar García Harfuch, confirmed that two male suspects have been arrested. Among them is 51-year-old Diego Sebastián Rosen Perlini.
While official motives have not been fully disclosed, authorities revealed that Perlini was a former business partner of Meléndez.
Camilo Séptimo was formed in 2013 by Meléndez, vocalist Manuel Mendoza, and guitarist Erik Vázquez. The band has released four studio albums, with their latest, Jardín de las almas, debuting in 2023.
