Police and emergency responders found 61-year-old Bryan Walker and his 63-year-old wife, Michelle Min, shot dead outside their home in the Oakland Hills area near the University of California, Berkeley, on October 2. Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene and launched an investigation into the deaths, treating the incident as a suspected murder-suicide.

The couple, married for over thirty years, co-founded the prominent women's fashion brand Bryn Walker in 1992. Bryan served as CEO while Michelle designed and built the label into a recognized name in American fashion, supplying roughly a thousand boutiques across the United States alongside brick-and-mortar stores in California and Massachusetts.

According to family members, the tragedy followed months of severe financial distress. Michelle's brother, Paul Min, told reporters that Bryan had secretly taken out loans against family assets and poured funds into risky investments, eventually convincing himself in mid-September that he had lost more than 100 million dollars.

Despite hiring an accountant from Chicago who determined that the financial standing was far healthier than Walker feared, the psychological toll proved overwhelming. Relatives noted that Walker had grown increasingly withdrawn and depressed, leading the family to arrange for his institutional psychiatric care on the very day the shooting occurred.
