The UK Conservative Party has unveiled a plan to establish a new air defense system, dubbed the Britannia Shield, designed to protect the country from missiles and drones. Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch stated that the project, with an estimated cost of £10 billion, would serve as a British version of Israel's Iron Dome system. Badenoch criticized the Labour government, arguing that it is not doing enough to ensure the security of Britain, its overseas territories, and military bases abroad.

Speaking at a party event, Badenoch emphasized that the primary duty of a government is to protect the nation and safeguard citizens. She pointed to growing threats from hostile nations such as Russia and Iran, noting that cheap weapons and drones have fundamentally changed modern warfare. According to the Conservatives, the integrated air and missile defense system could be deployed within five years, funded in part by shifting public spending.

Defense shadow minister James Cartlidge noted that the £10 billion budget would make the project one of Britain's most significant military programs since the Cold War. The initiative follows warnings from a parliamentary defense committee report last year stating that the UK's air defense capabilities severely lag behind those of its allies. The proposal comes amid escalating security tensions in Europe, growing fears of potential Russian military action against NATO members, and specific threats targeting British military assets and overseas bases.
