Brazilian Woman Uses Disguised Pizza Order Call to Police to Escape Domestic Abuse
A pregnant woman in Brazil used a disguised 911 call pretending to order a pizza to alert emergency services, leading to the arrest of her abusive partner.
A phone call that initially sounded like a standard pizza order led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man suspected of domestic violence against his pregnant partner in the city of Botucatu, São Paulo state, Brazil.
The 41-year-old woman, who is two months pregnant, called the 190 emergency hotline and pretended to order a pizza in order to secretly call for help without arousing her partner's suspicion.
Police Response and Rescue
According to the Brazilian news site G1, the dispatcher quickly realized that the woman was unable to speak freely. The operator continued the conversation with targeted questions, asking for her name, city, and address, and checking whether the man was still on the premises.
In the audio recording released by authorities, the woman can be heard saying: "Can you deliver a pizza to the street..." The dispatcher continued gathering the necessary details and concluded by saying: "A patrol car will be on its way as soon as possible. Just wait, okay?" The woman replied: "Thank you very much."
Arrest and Investigation
After understanding the nature of the call, the dispatcher dispatched police to the address. Officers arrived at the scene, identified a domestic violence situation, and arrested the suspect on the spot.
The woman told officers that her partner had threatened and assaulted her. Police seized two kitchen knives allegedly used in the threats. She was taken for medical evaluation and informed of her rights to seek protective orders. The suspect was taken into custody and the case was transferred to the local women's protection police station.
