Border Police Officers Questioned Over Alleged Theft and Abandonment of Car

Three Border Police officers were questioned under caution by the Police Internal Investigations Department (PIID) on Wednesday on suspicion of taking a parked vehicle during a patrol in the Jerusalem envelope, driving it without authorization, and subsequently abandoning it without reporting the incident to their commanders. The vehicle has not yet been located.
Investigation Details and Suspicions
According to the PIID, the incident occurred while the three officers were on duty in the Jerusalem envelope. At some point, they noticed a parked vehicle with its keys left inside. Investigators suspect that instead of leaving the vehicle in place or acting within their official authority, the trio took the car and drove it without any legal backing. During the drive, the suspects allegedly caused damage to neighboring vehicles. The PIID did not specify the extent of the damage, how many vehicles were hit, or the exact circumstances.
Release and Restrictions
In addition to taking the car, the officers are suspected of abandoning the vehicle and failing to report the incident to their superiors. Following their questioning under caution regarding offenses including car theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and abuse of office, the three Border Police officers were released under restrictive conditions, including a 15-day ban from entering Israel Police facilities.
"Three Border Police officers were questioned under caution by the PIID, inter alia, on suspicion of car theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and abuse of power," the department stated.
The investigation, handled by the Jerusalem branch of the PIID, is ongoing. Authorities emphasized that these are preliminary suspicions and the officers have not yet been formally charged.
