Good news for drivers: the road that opened ahead of schedule will close for the weekend

The Begin Highway in Jerusalem recently opened to traffic earlier than planned, following the successful completion of a complex operation to install two new bicycle bridges over the axis. Upon completion of the work and all required safety inspections, the road was reopened, and traffic on this central artery returned to normal.

However, less than two weeks after its reopening, the highway is scheduled to close again tonight (Thursday, 6.8) as part of ongoing work to complete the public transport lane. To accelerate progress on these lanes, traffic closures and extensive changes to public transport operations across the city will be implemented.

According to the announcement, the full closure of the Begin Highway in the southbound direction, between the Yigal Yadin interchange and the Givat Shaul interchange, will remain in effect until Friday, 7.8, at 10:00 AM. This is not a one-time closure, as an identical measure was implemented last Thursday.

In addition, significant disruptions to public transport are expected: dozens of urban lines will alter their routes, and central stations will be temporarily closed (including the Central Bus Station area, Golda Meir Road, Yirmiyahu, and Givat Shaul). Furthermore, several intercity lines will be affected, with some changing their departure points. Lines 400, 999, 972, and others will depart directly from the Arazim terminal and will not pass through the Chords Bridge or Binyanei HaUma to pick up passengers.

Drivers are advised to prepare in advance, utilize alternative routes, and rely on navigation applications.
