Amid growing controversy surrounding his tenure as owner of the Portland Trail Blazers, Tom Dundon sent a letter to season ticket holders clarifying that his primary focus is on winning on the court and upgrading the Moda Center. However, he stopped short of guaranteeing the franchise will remain in Portland, amid ongoing concerns over a potential relocation.

Arena Upgrades and Future Plans

"When it comes to the arena, our focus is long-term," Dundon wrote in an email to subscribers. "We are working to ensure the Moda Center remains one of the best venues in the NBA. There is still work ahead, and we will keep pushing until we get there."

These marked Dundon's first public remarks regarding the arena since a $586 million funding framework was agreed upon in August with the state, city, and county. In exchange for the public financing, Dundon is expected to sign a 20-year lease agreement at the city-owned facility.

Controversies and Roster Optimism

Since teaming up with investors, including the Cherng family (owners of Panda Express), and purchasing the Blazers for $4.25 billion, Dundon has faced considerable backlash. Controversies have included cost-cutting measures on hotel and travel accommodations for two-way players, the layoff of more than 70 employees, an unprecedented one-year contract for new coach Micah Nori, and the hiring and firing on the same day of broadcaster Brayden Bell, who replaced Kevin Calabro following the veteran's departure over what he called an inferior contract offer.

"I am still learning to know Portland and this fanbase," Dundon wrote. "But one thing is already clear: you show up, you care, and you expect more than mediocrity. I respect that. I have seen that commitment."

Dundon opened his letter by expressing optimism regarding the additions of Ja Morant and Damian Lillard to a roster that won 42 games last season and reached the playoffs. He proudly highlighted the team's achievements, specifically mentioning Deni Avdija, who earned his first All-Star selection after attacking the basket and dictating the pace all season.

"I do not believe in making promises I cannot keep," Dundon added. "My record speaks for itself, and my intention here is clear: to bring a championship to Portland."
