Israeli cinema is making waves abroad as Black Slaughter, the debut feature film by music video director Gigi Bitito, has been officially selected for the prestigious Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia. Organizers announced that the gripping thriller will compete next month in one of the festival's prominent competitive sections dedicated to international debut films.
Set in Israel during 1996, the film explores the turbulent backdrop of the Ethiopian-Israeli blood disposal controversy. The lead role is played by prominent rapper Teddy Negusse in his acting debut, starring alongside Ophir Award winners Lia Elalouf and Naveh Tzur, as well as Eretz Nehederet star Mariano Idelman in his first dramatic cinematic role.
Negusse portrays Hailo, a young Ethiopian man sent to perform a ritual slaughter who finds himself embarking on a tense and emotional journey of identity, faith, and belonging. The screenplay for Black Slaughter was co-written by Gigi Bitito alongside Roy Ben Artzi and Gili Yalu.
