National Insurance Institute Announces Refunds Following Jerusalem Class Action
The National Insurance Institute announced refunds for individuals who paid 25 shekels for personal file copies at Jerusalem branches between December 2020 and March 2026, following a class action settlement.
The National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) has announced a refund for insured individuals following a ruling issued on March 19, 2026, by the Jerusalem Regional Labor Court. The court approved a settlement agreement in class action suit 2001-12-22, Daniel Cohen v. The National Insurance Institute.
Refund Details and Eligibility
Under the terms of the settlement, refunds will be issued to individuals who paid a fee of 25 shekels to obtain a copy of their personal file from the National Insurance Institute. The refund applies to payments made at Jerusalem branches between December 1, 2020, and March 19, 2026.
The refund will not be limited to the original amount paid. According to the announcement, it will include linkage to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), calculated from the day the payment was made until the actual refund date.
How to Claim the Refund
Eligible individuals must submit a request to receive the funds by November 22, 2026. Applications can be submitted through the personal portal on the National Insurance Institute website or via the email addresses of the relevant branches.
"Applicants should provide proof of payment when submitting their request, though those lacking documentation can ask the institute to locate the transaction using an identification number."
