New EdTech Center BitMaker Launched in Northern Israel to Boost Science Education
A new educational technology hub, BitMaker, has launched at Tel Hai to boost science learning in northern Israel. Backed by President Isaac Herzog and Elbit Systems, it pairs 450 students with industry mentors.
A new regional educational and technological center named "BitMaker" has been launched at the Elbit complex in Tel Hai, aiming to boost science and advanced technology education among students in northern Israel. The initiative follows disappointing PISA test results and brings together industry, academia, and local communities.
Fostering Innovation in the North
The launch ceremony took place in the presence of President of Israel Isaac Herzog and senior executives from Elbit Systems. The "BitMaker" center serves as a regional technological hub designed to encourage scientific curiosity, creativity, and entrepreneurial thinking among children and teenagers.
"The launch of BitMaker is an expression and value-based statement of our long-term commitment to education, excellence, and strengthening the next generation of the State of Israel," said Bezhalel Machlis, President and CEO of Elbit Systems.
Program Structure and Mentorship
Around 450 students from grades four to nine will participate weekly in some 30 groups representing schools across Kiryat Shmona, the Upper Galilee, Mevo'ot HaHermon, and Metula. Students attend sessions during regular school hours as part of their curriculum, with plans to expand the initiative to high school students and matriculation programs.
The initiative is a collaborative regional partnership involving Elbit Systems, the HaBayit Foundation, the Northern District of the Ministry of Education, the Eastern Galilee Cluster, and Tel Hai – Kiryat Shmona Academic College. Alongside educational instructors, Elbit employees—including software team leaders and innovation experts—volunteer as mentors to guide students in hands-on technological product development.
