Woman Attacked in Berlin in Suspected Antisemitic Glass Bottle Assault

In Berlin, a 43-year-old woman was attacked by two men after they noticed a Star of David necklace she was wearing. The incident took place early Friday morning in the central Mitte district, according to Berlin police.
Antisemitic Attack in Mitte
The victim was walking on Torstrasse around 2:30 AM when two unidentified men approached her, hurled antisemitic insults, and one of them struck her with a broken glass bottle. The woman sustained cuts to her hand while trying to defend herself, and the suspects fled the scene. Emergency services transported her to a hospital for medical treatment.
The Berlin police state security department, which handles politically and religiously motivated crimes, has launched an investigation into the assault. No arrests have been made yet.
Rising Antisemitism in Germany
This incident follows a troubling trend of rising antisemitism in the German capital. According to local authorities, Berlin recorded 2,268 antisemitic offenses in 2025, marking a 24.3% increase compared to the previous year, including 64 violent crimes.
"The high volume of incidents undermines the sense of security of the entire Jewish community in our city," noted a representative from the Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office.
Earlier in June, a 47-year-old Jewish man wearing a kippah was physically assaulted along with his two children in the Charlottenburg neighborhood. Authorities continue to monitor and prosecute hate crimes through specialized state security units.
