Bereaved Families Sue Eyal Berkovic and Reshet 13 for Defamation
Bereaved families and the "Din ve-Tzedek" forum filed a 500,000 NIS defamation lawsuit against presenter Eyal Berkovic and Reshet 13 over remarks made on television.
A new legal storm has erupted around the October 7 memorial events as the "Din ve-Tzedek" forum and bereaved families filed a 500,000 shekel defamation lawsuit against presenter Eyal Berkovic and broadcaster Reshet 13.
The lawsuit stems from remarks made on the show "Moriah ve-Berko", where forum members were allegedly portrayed as being manipulated by the prime minister and the Likud party. Plaintiffs stated that prior requests for an apology and retraction went unanswered, leaving them no choice but to turn to the courts.
In an official statement, the bereaved families firmly rejected allegations of political motives. "We are bereaved families who lost our dearest, and it is our right and duty to demand answers and fight to uncover the truth about the disaster," forum members declared.
Yossi Cohen, a forum member whose son Amit was murdered at the Nova party, sharply criticized the organizers of the families' national memorial ceremony in a radio interview. Cohen accused the organizers of deliberate exclusion for political reasons, stating they use their children's names to generate hatred and division.
