Ben Gvir Publishes Prison Footage Despite Attorney General Directives
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir published prison footage confronting a terrorist who allegedly plotted against him, defying recent directives by the Attorney General.
Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir has published new footage from inside an Israeli prison, defying recent directives from Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara regarding the prohibition of using prison visits for political propaganda. The video shows Ben Gvir confronting a terrorist who was allegedly part of a cell that planned to assassinate him and harm his family.
Confrontation in Prison
During the visit, which took place approximately a month ago at a prison in southern Israel, Ben Gvir engaged in a direct verbal confrontation with the inmate. The minister declared that conditions for security prisoners have significantly worsened since he assumed office and vowed to continue tightening restrictions.
"You tried to kill me," Ben Gvir told the inmate in the footage. "You picked the wrong minister. I am not afraid of you or a thousand like you. With God's help, we will execute you. You need to die, you need to be executed by hanging."
Political Context and Directives
The publication of the video follows instructions issued by Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara to Prison Service Commissioner Kobi Yaakobi, prohibiting the minister from filming meetings with security prisoners for electoral campaign purposes. However, associates of the minister noted that the footage was recorded prior to the directive's issuance.
The confrontation highlights Ben Gvir's ongoing hardline policy regarding prison conditions for Palestinian security prisoners, as well as his persistent legislative efforts to advance the death penalty for convicted terrorists.
