A five-year-old boy who witnessed his mother's murder in Be'er Sheva will be returned to his 22-year-old sister following a resolution with the Welfare Ministry.
Welfare Ministry Returns Child to Sister After Tragic Be'er Sheva Murder
Following a public outcry and media reports regarding the separation of 22-year-old Banchi from her five-year-old brother, the Ministry of Welfare resolved the dispute, allowing the child to return to his family. The boy, who witnessed the horrific murder of his 38-year-old mother Anania Kaleb in Be'er Sheva, had initially been placed in an emergency youth center by municipal welfare workers.
Lily Ben Ami of the Michal Sela Forum announced that Banchi would receive visiting time with her younger brother, take him for the entire weekend, and receive full custody by Sunday. Despite the severe trauma the boy experienced, initial welfare decisions separated the siblings, sparking sharp criticism from family advocates.
Domestic Violence History and Family Tragedy
According to police and family accounts, the suspect in the fatal stabbing is the victim's husband and Banchi's father. Banchi revealed that police had visited her mother's apartment several times in the past due to reports of domestic violence. Despite previous violent incidents, including the brandishing of knives, her mother repeatedly chose not to file official complaints.
"She wanted to buy a home and live alone in happiness. They were married for 25 years and she was not happy. She wanted to give us everything she could so we could reach good places. She endured it for our sake," Banchi shared, urging victims of abuse to seek help immediately.
