Sometimes reality crafts a story straight out of a children's book. A black bear wandered into a California public library last week, snacking on treats, devouring a jar of honey, and browsing the shelves before making its exit. What made the visit truly special was the exact date: it happened on the very day Winnie-the-Pooh celebrated the 100th anniversary of its first published book.

The incident took place on October 14 at the Mammoth Lakes Public Library. According to library director Joseph Buph, the bear entered the building around 6:10 in the morning, nearly four hours before opening time. It headed straight for the staff snack stash, finding peanut butter, peach cups, cookies, and of course, a jar of honey.

After finishing its meal, the unexpected guest decided to take a short tour of the library. It wandered through the new books section, inspected the information desk, and eventually left on its own without causing any damage. Security cameras captured the bear roaming between the shelves.

The library staff could not ignore the connection to Winnie-the-Pooh, whose first book by A.A. Milne was published on October 14, 1926. In a humorous statement, the staff noted that while they love enthusiastic visitors, snacks are not items available for check-out.

They also made sure to point out one minor detail: unlike books, the jar of honey taken by the bear has not yet been returned.
