Base44, acquired by Wix, has announced the launch of Base Code, a new standalone product connecting existing codebases to a shared cloud development environment. The move marks a direct entry into competition with leading AI development tools such as Claude Code and Cursor. The new product enables teams to connect code repositories from GitHub, where the company's AI agent learns the codebase and automatically sets up a full cloud environment. The agent can handle complex repositories, set up databases and infrastructure, and display a live preview of the application.
Collaborative Cloud Development
From that moment on, every team member can make code changes using natural language chat, view them in real-time, and submit them as pull requests while fully maintaining the organization's developer review and approval processes. Today, many organizations suffer from bottlenecks because even small code changes require direct involvement from developers. While developers are distracted from core tasks, product, design, and operations teams are forced to wait in line. Base Code solves this by providing an accessible cloud environment from a browser or mobile device without requiring local installation.
