Javier Bardem Compares Benjamin Netanyahu to Dictators at Rome Film Festival
Spanish actor Javier Bardem compared Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco while receiving a lifetime achievement award at the Rome Film Festival.

Spanish actor Javier Bardem attended the Rome Film Festival to receive a lifetime achievement award, using the red carpet to launch a scathing political critique. When asked about his impressions of Rome, Bardem transitioned from praising the city's artistic heritage to warning against historical and contemporary political threats.
Historical Parallels and Political Warnings
Bardem referenced Italy's fascist past under Benito Mussolini, warning what happens when citizens surrender their responsibility to leaders who oppose basic human rights. "But it is also Franco, and it is also Hitler, and it is also Benjamin Netanyahu," the Oscar-winning actor stated, drawing a direct parallel between the Israeli leader and 20th-century dictators.
"This is what can happen when citizens surrender their responsibility and grant power to those who oppose basic human rights," Bardem warned during the festival.
A History of Activism
This is not the first time Bardem has used a high-profile public platform to voice criticism of Israeli policies. Earlier, during a ceremony in Hollywood, the actor condemned military actions in Gaza and settler violence in the West Bank. Despite facing potential professional repercussions, Bardem continues to voice his political views globally while also promoting his latest cinematic projects.
