Bar-Ilan Professor Charged with Planning Nationalist Terror Attacks
A Bar-Ilan University mathematics professor has been charged with planning a nationalist terror plot targeting Arabs in Israel and the West Bank using sleeper cells and military assets.

A Bar-Ilan University mathematics professor has been charged with planning nationalist-ideological terrorist attacks against hundreds of Arabs in Israel and the West Bank, following the lifting of a gag order.
Prof. Shahar Nevo, a resident of Petah Tikva in his 60s, is accused of devising a multi-year terror plot known as the "Ayit" plan, aimed at forcibly expelling Arabs from Israeli territory and the West Bank. According to the indictment, the operation involved organizing 12 cells of six individuals each, equipped with firearms, axes, and hammers. Nevo allegedly sought to exploit rogue elements within the IDF for aerial bombardment and artillery strikes, and conducted preliminary reconnaissance near Tuba-Zangriyye.
Manifesto and Extortion Attempts
Handwritten documents recovered by investigators outlined Nevo's extremist ideology, explicitly calling for violent actions without sparing women and children. The plan envisioned simultaneous attacks broadcasted in real time on social media to trigger mass displacement.
In his efforts to advance the conspiracy, Nevo attempted to recruit Moshe Feiglin, former chairman of the Zehut party. When Feiglin ignored his overtures, Nevo sent an extortion letter threatening public damage if he refused cooperation. Feiglin initially dismissed the letters as the rantings of an unstable individual before notifying police.
"Do not pity even their cruel and repulsive women and children, do not stop at pleas, harden your hearts," Nevo wrote in seized documents.
Legal Proceedings and University Suspension
Prosecutors have charged Nevo with preparation for an act of terror, extortion by threats, and obstruction of justice, requesting his detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings. Bar-Ilan University issued a statement expressing profound shock and immediately suspending him. Defense attorneys Hadar Sharir and Alon Porat stated they would review the evidence before determining their legal strategy.
