Driver Alert: Begin Highway to Close Again Following Recent Reopening
The Begin Highway in Jerusalem will close again in the southbound direction to facilitate ongoing work on the public transport lane. This is the first of three scheduled closures occurring between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
The Begin Highway in Jerusalem, which reopened last Friday ahead of schedule following the installation of two new bicycle bridges, will close again tomorrow evening, Thursday, as part of ongoing work to complete the public transport lane.
According to a joint statement from the Ministry of Transport, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Transportation for Jerusalem company, and the Moriah Jerusalem Development Corporation, the full southbound closure between the Yigal Yadin and Givat Shaul interchanges will begin at 20:00 on Thursday, July 30, and continue until 10:00 on Friday, July 31.
The work is part of the development of section 'Zayin' of the public transport lane on Begin Boulevard, between the Givat Shaul and Golda Meir interchanges. Officials stated that the work is being accelerated to ensure the northbound section opens before the upcoming holiday period.
New steel bridges will be hoisted to serve the bicycle path along the route. A full southbound closure is required to safely operate the heavy cranes needed for this installation.
This is not a one-time event. The highway will be closed in the same format during the following periods:

From 20:00 on Thursday, August 6, to 10:00 on Friday, August 7

From 20:00 on Thursday, August 13, to 10:00 on Friday, August 14
During these hours, alternative traffic arrangements will be in effect, and public transport routes will be adjusted. Some urban and intercity lines will depart directly from the Ha-Arzim terminal, and several stops will be temporarily relocated or cancelled. The Ministry of Transport advises the public to check updated routes and schedules via official information channels.
The Jerusalem Municipality will deploy inspectors to manage traffic on adjacent roads. Drivers are urged to prepare in advance, seek alternative routes, and check their navigation using the Waze app before departing.
As a reminder, the Begin Highway opened ahead of schedule on July 24 following the successful completion of the bridge installation. The project is now entering its next phase, which includes widening the highway and improving infrastructure for all road users.
