Instead of false eyelashes: lawyer arrested at Ben Gurion Airport on suspicion of drug smuggling
A shipment that arrived from England via Turkey aroused the suspicion of customs at Ben Gurion Airport: inside packaging for false eyelash remover, vials containing a substance suspected to be GBL were found. A lawyer was arrested, and ecstasy, heroin, and other drugs were also seized at his home.
Lawyer Tal Shtiker was arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle the drug GBL into Israel using vials disguised as a product for removing false eyelashes. His detention was extended today (Wednesday) until August 16. The investigation is being conducted in cooperation with the drug unit of the Ben Gurion Airport customs and detectives of the 747 unit of the Central District.
According to the police and the Tax Authority, the shipment arrived from England via Turkey through an air courier service. During enforcement activities on shipments imported to Israel, customs investigators located a package containing vials that held a substance suspected to be GBL. According to the suspicion, the vials were disguised inside packaging that appeared to be intended for removing false eyelashes and were sent to a client in the center of the country.
Yesterday, as part of the joint investigation, detectives of the 747 unit tracked the delivery of the package in Tel Aviv and arrested the suspect, a lawyer by profession. Subsequently, the detectives conducted a search of his home, where additional substances suspected to be drugs of the ecstasy, heroin, and GBL types were seized, along with other materials and foreign currency. Lawyer Shtiker claimed that the drugs were intended for his personal use.
All findings were transferred for testing to the police forensic laboratories. The suspect was transferred for interrogation to the 747 unit, and today the court granted the police's request and extended his detention until August 16.
