Criminal attack thwarted in the north: five suspects arrested, a pistol and an M16 rifle seized
In a raid by Northern District police officers and Northern Border Police fighters in Bir al-Maksur, five suspects were arrested, who were suspected of planning to commit a crime as part of a criminal dispute. Five suspects were arrested early Sunday morning in the town of Bir al-Maksur after Northern District police officers and Northern Border Police (Magav) fighters raided a building where a loaded pistol, an M16 rifle, ammunition, additional magazines, and gloves were found. According to the investigation, the five planned to commit a crime as part of a criminal dispute. They were transferred for questioning at the police station, where a decision will be made regarding the extension of their detention.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 530 lethal weapons have been seized in the Northern District, and as part of the fight against violent crime, armed individuals have been arrested while committing offenses. The police emphasize that their forces continue to operate to locate illegal weapons, arrest suspects, and bring those involved to justice.
"The Israel Police will continue to act with determination to deal with incidents of violence and locate illegal weapons for the sake of maintaining public safety and bringing criminals to justice," the police stated.
This incident joins a series of weapon seizures recently carried out by the police in the Northern District. In recent months, an arms trafficking network was exposed in Kafr Kanna, resulting in indictments against 11 defendants, and in another case, an unusual cache of weapons was located in Rosh Pinna, including shoulder-fired missiles, explosive devices, a Negev machine gun, and grenades.
