Attack on Barak Abramov: Another suspect arrested for arson of 'Japanika'

A dramatic development in the fight against organized crime in the center: detectives from the Central Unit (Yamar) of the Tel Aviv District arrested another suspect involved in the arson of a 'Japanika' chain branch in Givatayim, owned by businessman Barak Abramov. The surprise arrest was carried out last night during a covert and focused operational activity, at the end of which the suspect was brought to court, which extended his detention until August 11.

The suspect arrested yesterday, an 18-year-old resident of Rehovot, was transferred for questioning under caution on suspicion of direct involvement in the arson incident. The police clarify that the night arrest is part of an intensive and uncompromising investigation being conducted by Yamar investigators, with the goal of eradicating the wave of violence and serious criminal incidents recorded recently between criminal organizations in the central region.

As recalled, the arson incident at the branch in Givatayim occurred on July 12 in the early morning hours, when unknown persons set fire to the place and caused extensive property damage, fortunately without any casualties. The incident joined a wave of serious and unprecedented attacks against several of Abramov's chain branches throughout Gush Dan, which included throwing explosive devices, grenades, and live fire against the backdrop of bloody conflicts in the underworld.

As part of the intensive investigation, police investigators had already arrested a first suspect involved in the arson of the business on July 27, and his detention was extended by the court from time to time until August 9. Now, with the arrest of the second suspect from Rehovot, law enforcement officials clarify that the investigation continues with determination in order to reach all parties involved in the wave of criminal terror.
