Be'er Sheva supermarket stabbing: Attempted murder caught on camera

The Southern District Attorney's Office has filed an indictment against 20-year-old Maher Al-Gargawi from Segev Shalom for the attempted murder of a young man from the Abu Taha family at a supermarket in Be'er Sheva. The attack occurred against the backdrop of an ongoing blood feud between the two families.

Security cameras documented the incident, which took place in the early afternoon. The footage shows Al-Gargawi and an accomplice entering the store armed with knives. Upon spotting the victim standing between the shelves, they attacked him from behind, knocked him to the floor, and stabbed him repeatedly while he was unable to defend himself. A MADA team arrived at the scene and evacuated the wounded man to Soroka Hospital.

The investigation was led by the Be'er Sheva police station. Officers successfully arrested Al-Gargawi and seized the vehicle used for his escape. Inside the car, they discovered items of clothing identical to those worn by the attackers, including an orange vest. The defendant's DNA was found on the clothing, along with his personal identification documents. After recovering, the victim identified Al-Gargawi as one of the assailants. Police are currently working to apprehend the second suspect.

Be'er Sheva Station Commander, Colonel Kfir Solomon, stated:

"This case illustrates the importance of fast, professional, and determined investigative work. Within a short time, investigators managed to gather the necessary evidence to file a serious indictment. We will continue to act decisively against criminals to ensure they are brought to justice."

The prosecution has filed a request with the Be'er Sheva District Court to hold Al-Gargawi in custody until the end of the proceedings. "There is a very serious concern that his release would lead to a further violent flare-up of the conflict," officials noted.
