An unusual aviation impasse leaves Israeli airlines grounded on the route to Dubai while foreign carriers continue operations unhindered. This regulatory discrepancy has sparked harsh criticism from Arkia CEO Oz Berlovitz and threatens thousands of passengers holding tickets for November and beyond.
Security directives currently barring Israeli carriers from operating flights to Dubai remain in effect until October 31. However, this restriction does not apply to Israeli citizens traveling to the destination. Foreign airlines such as Flydubai and Etihad Airways continue to operate scheduled flights between Israel and the UAE.
According to the checks we conducted, almost 100% of the passengers on Flydubai flights on this route are Israelis. We have not yet found a single Emirati passenger on the flights we examined, said Oz Berlovitz.
Security Disputes and Market Distortion
Reports indicate that the security limitation stems from disagreements between Israeli and Dubai security apparatuses regarding operational protocols and required security clearances at the airport. If extended past October, this dispute will cause severe disruptions. Israeli carriers are already selling tickets for November onward, creating substantial uncertainty for consumers.
Arkia emphasizes that it does not seek to compromise on security requirements, but rather demands an equitable solution allowing domestic carriers to resume operations. Industry leaders argue that the current framework severely harms market competition by granting an unfair monopoly to foreign operators while sidelining Israeli aviation.
