Senior officials from the Israeli Ministry of Education are scheduled to visit Ariel today, Thursday, to meet with parents of toddlers from the Lucik daycare center, where a severe suspected child abuse case was uncovered. The visit aims to allow ministry officials to hear firsthand complaints from parents, who point to a severe failure in oversight and the handling of the facility by the ministry, which they claim failed to detect the ongoing incidents despite conducting an inspection there last May.

Among the senior officials expected to attend the meeting are Orna Paz, head of the Early Childhood Education Division at the Ministry of Education, and Einav Luk, a senior official at the Psychological Counseling Service, alongside other professionals from the ministry. Parents have strongly criticized the ministry, arguing that the primary failure lies within the supervisory framework. According to them, the daycare owner, Natalia Kasilovsky, provided the ministry inspector with the name of the pedagogical instructor who accompanied the facility.

Parents also noted that an inspection visit conducted last May resulted in a positive evaluation of the daycare's operations. However, they claim that security camera footage was not reviewed during the visit, which could have exposed what was happening behind closed doors. "This is a severe failure by the Ministry of Education. They visited the facility, assumed everything was fine, and gave a positive evaluation, but no one checked the cameras to see what was actually going on," parents stated, noting that no subsequent inspections were carried out.

The meeting takes place against the backdrop of an advancing police investigation that has uncovered hundreds of suspected incidents of toddler abuse, including slamming, choking, shaking, and other acts of violence. Yesterday, a prosecutor's statement was filed against the daycare owner and two assistants ahead of formal indictments. Parents emphasize that they intend to confront ministry officials with tough questions regarding accountability, inspection procedures, and why the suspicions were not detected earlier.
