Iranian FM Araghchi Meets Chinese Counterpart in Beijing Amid Regional Tensions
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing amid regional escalation, as Beijing emphasizes protecting legitimate interests.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing on Wednesday. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has not yet released further details regarding the meeting, which takes place amid regional escalation and a diplomatic deadlock between Tehran and Washington.
According to AFP, the Chinese minister confirmed that China and Iran share a comprehensive strategic partnership, and Beijing is ready to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Iran while effectively protecting its legitimate rights and interests.
However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated during the meeting that Beijing's readiness is to protect Iran's legitimate interests within the context of the regional conflict. This was interpreted by parts of the global media as a implicit critique of Iran's attempts to preserve its nuclear facilities at all costs.
This visit comes amid internal Iranian debates regarding a cooling of relations between Tehran and Beijing, following a brief and controversial phone call two weeks prior between the Iranian president and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
