The turmoil in the world of Israeli reality television continues to cause waves. Following the surprising dismissal of chef Moshik Roth from the cooking show 'Chef Games' on Reshet 13—a role he held for about 12 years—past grievances and anger regarding how the engagement ended are now being revealed. Roth, the first Israeli chef to win Michelin stars, found out about the end of his tenure on the show through the media, a move that led to a storm in the industry.
In an interview presented yesterday (Saturday) on the Keshet 12 news edition, Roth sits alongside his wife Shiran and shares his difficult feelings. Shiran Roth does not hold back her feelings toward the production team and colleagues, and describes routine conduct right up until the moment the news was published in the media.
According to her, just a few days before the reports in the media, schedules were still being coordinated and flight tickets were being moved at the request of the production, which made the immediate dismissal a surprising blow.
The main criticism from Shiran is directed toward chef Assaf Granit, who was Roth's partner in leading the program. Shiran notes that in her opinion, Granit and other parties in the production were in the know even before the dismissal went to the media, and Shiran describes disappointment with the conduct of someone who had been a friend and partner on screen for over a decade.
The dramatic move comes as part of a series of structural changes being promoted by the management of Reshet 13, in the era following the entry of the new controlling owners into the company. As part of the refreshing of the judging cast, the one chosen to step into Roth's shoes on the show is chef Yonatan Roshfeld. Despite the criticism from Roth's circle, sources in the industry know to say that Granit himself actually expressed reservations and even tried to oppose the move to the channel's management, but his position was not accepted by the decision-makers.
