Member of Knesset, Brigadier General (res.) Sharon Nir of Yisrael Beiteinu informed party chairman Avigdor Lieberman this evening, Saturday, that she will not run in the elections for the 26th Knesset and is embarking on a new path.

In a statement issued on her behalf, Nir thanked Lieberman:

"Over the past four years, it has been my privilege to work for the citizens of Israel during a period of intense war."

She added that she views the upcoming elections as historic for the future of the State of Israel and clarified that she will continue to support Yisrael Beiteinu.

Nir has served as a Member of Knesset for Yisrael Beiteinu since November 2022. Before entering politics, she served for many years in the IDF and reached the rank of Brigadier General. Among other roles, she served as the Chief of Staff's advisor on gender affairs.

In the 25th Knesset, Nir was a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, the Subcommittee on Intelligence, and the Ethics Committee. As part of her parliamentary work, she focused, among other things, on prioritizing the needs of IDF soldiers, both in regular service and in the reserves, and on promoting women to decision-making positions and key roles.

Yisrael Beiteinu stated: "The party thanks Brigadier General (res.) MK Sharon Nir for four years of significant public service as a Member of Knesset on behalf of the party. During her tenure, she worked devotedly for the citizens of Israel, led and promoted legislation, and placed the security of the state and the public good at the center of her activities."

It was further stated: "We appreciate her great contribution and are confident that her experience, abilities, and commitment to the State of Israel will continue to be reflected in her future path. The Yisrael Beiteinu party will continue to be at her disposal and wishes her great success in the future."
