A month after announcing that she and her husband Itay are divorcing after eight years together, 32-year-old 'The Amazing Race' contestant May Hatuel appeared at a Super-Pharm event to address the changes in her life. In a candid interview, she revealed what truly triggered the dissolution of their marriage.

"It's not simple. From the moment we announced it, the wound perhaps opened up a bit again, but we have been living with this for a while," May shared. "Every day that passes is perhaps a bit easier. There are moments when I am sad, but overall we are at peace. We made the most mature and brave decision we could make at this point in time, and I am very proud of how we are handling it."

When asked if the decision was sudden, she clarified: "Breaking up a home after eight years doesn't happen in one morning. We went through many difficulties in recent years and eventually reached a point where we understood that separating was the right thing for each of us."

Many have linked the split to their intense experience on 'The Amazing Race'. May acknowledged the connection but clarified the context: "Of course, there is a connection because it was such an intense experience for us as a couple. But it's not because of what people saw on screen. There is much more to my life than the show. It was a challenge we had to deal with, but we didn't end an eight-year relationship just because of that."

She also addressed the lack of contact with her former show partner, Itay On: "Unfortunately, we are not in touch. He was not part of this process for me. I will always love him as a best friend, and my door is always open to him, but we are just in a period where we aren't communicating."

May admitted that the vitriol online was particularly shocking: "I was surprised by how many insulting things people are willing to write about someone they don't even know. I wouldn't choose to react like that to someone else's painful event."

Regarding her future, May stated she is not ready for a new romance: "I haven't known myself alone for eight years, and I am currently focused on understanding who I am. The hardest part is going to sleep alone, when all the thoughts and feelings arrive."

Finally, she revealed the core issue that led to their final conversation: "The discourse started with the topic of children. We are at a crossroads: are we starting a family or not? If not, why? Is it because we don't want to, or because there is something between us that needs to be solved first? We both brought those feelings to the table, and that honesty is what led us to where we are today. So, it is for the best."
