After the strike in Syria: Is Israel heading toward a confrontation with Turkey?

The current confrontation between Israel and Turkey came to light even before Jerusalem sought to officially reveal it. The Americans, through their special envoy to Syria, explicitly accused Israel of the latest strike, thereby bringing the issue to the public sphere, whether Israel wanted it or not. Although the exchange of inflammatory statements is routine on the part of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, this time it is the incident closest to a direct military confrontation, placing the parties at a point of unprecedented military and political friction.

During the strike at the airport in the Idlib region, Israel took care to ensure that no Turkish soldiers were present at the site to prevent a direct hit on them that would lead to escalation. This step was taken against the backdrop of the Israeli need to stop the creeping occupation that Turkey has been carrying out in Syrian territory in recent years. Without decisive Israeli action, there is a real fear that in a few years, Israel will wake up to a new and dangerous strategic reality in which Turkish military forces are permanently stationed on the sovereign border of the State of Israel on the Golan Heights.

Parallel to the military developments, the political arena is changing with the signing of a new defense alliance between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. This alliance includes a clause based on "Article 5" of the NATO treaty, which states that an attack on one of the countries will be considered an attack on all of them. Although the alliance has not yet been practically activated against Israel, it is a source of great concern, as it tightens cooperation between Islamic forces and creates a formula that brings the countries closer to a joint military response in the event of an attack.
