After weighing 180 kg: You won't believe how the Hollywood star you all know looks today
The esteemed actor (72), known to many for his roles in "Roseanne" and "The Big Lebowski," shed half his body weight in a slow and inspiring process. After years of struggling with binge eating and alcoholism, Goodman switched to a Mediterranean diet and committed to daily walking. In a candid interview, he explains: "This time I realized it was a lifelong change and not a temporary diet."

In recent years, the appearances of American actor John Goodman on the red carpet continue to stun Hollywood. Someone who was known for decades as one of the biggest actors in the industry – both due to his extensive career and his physical appearance – is now presenting a particularly dramatic visual change, having shed over 90 kilograms.
Goodman, whose weight at its peak reached about 180 kilograms, has shared in the past with candor about the prolonged struggle he waged with excess weight, binge eating, and alcoholism. His major change began as early as 2007, when he decided to stop drinking alcohol and change his lifestyle from the ground up.
With the help of a personal trainer and a switch to a Mediterranean diet – rich in fish, olive oil, vegetables, and whole grains – Goodman managed to maintain his achievements over time and stop the "yo-yo" effect that accompanied him and made his life miserable for years.
Unlike the current prevailing trend in Hollywood of using miracle drugs and weight-loss injections, Goodman emphasizes that his process was slow, gradual, and based primarily on a deep change in consciousness.
"In the past, I would lose 20-30 kilograms, celebrate it, and go right back to the old habits. This time I realized that I needed to take it slow, walk between 10,000 and 12,000 steps every day, and internalize that this is a lifelong change and not a temporary diet that passes."
72-year-old John Goodman is considered one of the most esteemed and beloved character actors in Hollywood. His big breakthrough came in the late 80s when he played Dan Conner, the father of the family in the successful sitcom "Roseanne" – a role that earned him a Golden Globe Award and six Emmy Award nominations.
Throughout decades of a rich career, he has appeared in dozens of successful feature films, including unforgettable collaborations with the Coen brothers ("The Big Lebowski," "Barton Fink," "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"), voiced iconic characters in Pixar animation hits (such as Sulley in "Monsters, Inc."), and acted in esteemed drama series like "Treme." Today, as he displays a toned physique and improved health, Goodman continues to act and serve as a living example that it is never too late to make a positive and dramatic change in one's quality of life.
