Amazon Shares Surge 5% After Morgan Stanley Raises Price Target
Amazon shares jumped nearly 5% on Wall Street after Morgan Stanley named the tech giant a top pick and raised its price target, fueled by strong AI growth forecasts for AWS.

Amazon shares surged nearly 5% on Wall Street following an exceptionally optimistic recommendation from investment bank Morgan Stanley. Bank analysts named Amazon a Top Pick and raised its price target from $335 to $350 per share, triggering investor enthusiasm and increased trading volumes.
Artificial Intelligence Drives Growth
Morgan Stanley's optimism is primarily driven by the artificial intelligence revolution, which the bank believes will supercharge Amazon's business operations. The bank highlighted five key growth drivers, chief among them the expectation that the growth rate of the company's cloud division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), will nearly triple between 2025 and 2028, fueled by growing AI adoption among enterprise clients.
This forecast rests on robust field data. In the second quarter of the year, AWS posted impressive results with a 37% year-over-year revenue increase, reaching $42.2 billion. This marked the division's fastest growth rate in the last 18 quarters. Investors are now eagerly awaiting third-party quarterly reports at the end of October to see if this positive trend continues.
Regulatory Challenges on the Horizon
Despite the rosy forecasts, Amazon also faces significant regulatory hurdles. Recently, the competition authority in the United Kingdom ruled that Amazon and Microsoft must act to remove barriers that make it difficult for customers to switch between cloud service providers. This development serves as a reminder that increasing regulatory oversight could impact the profit margins of the cloud division over the long term.
