Urgent Health Ministry Warning: Rabies Cases on the Rise in Israel
Following the discovery of an infected dog in Neve Tzuf, four people have been referred for preventive treatment. Amid a 252% surge in cases, the Ministry of Health urges the public to remain vigilant.
Rabies continues to spread at an alarming rate across Israel. Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Health reported a medium-sized, brown-colored dog infected with rabies in the settlement of Neve Tzuf. So far, four people who were exposed to the animal have received preventive treatment.
The Ministry of Health stated:
"We ask anyone who has been in contact—or whose pets have been in contact—with the infected animal or any stray animal in the area of the incident between June 24, 2026, and July 9, 2026, inclusive, to urgently contact the Ramle District Health Office at 08-9181202, or the health office closest to their residence. After working hours and during weekends, please proceed to a hospital emergency room."
The Ministry of Health further requests the following:

Parents: Check with your children to see if they have had contact with suspicious animals and contact the health office immediately if necessary.

Pet owners: Contact your municipal veterinarian to verify your pet's vaccination status.

Travelers: Share this information with vacationers in the area and nearby settlements.
The Ministry reminds the public that anyone bitten or scratched by an animal should immediately wash the area with running water and soap, apply an antiseptic, and visit a health office to determine if preventive treatment is required.
This alert comes one day after the Ministry published an alarming report showing an unprecedented surge in animal rabies cases over the last three years (2022–2025). The number of diagnosed cases has risen from 29 to 102 per year, marking a 252% increase.
