Peak Season Alert: Black Flags Raised at Sea of Galilee Beaches
Extremely strong westerly winds prompted an immediate safety measure today, Tuesday, at several popular Sea of Galilee beaches. Following a joint assessment by the Kinneret Cities Association and the Israel Police, black flags were raised at the Tzinbari, Berniki, and Shikmim beaches, and bathers were ordered to exit the water immediately.
Extremely strong westerly winds led today, Tuesday, to an unusual and immediate decision at several of the most popular beaches on the Sea of Galilee (Kinneret). Following a special situation assessment held by representatives of the Kinneret Cities Association together with the Israel Police, it was decided to raise black flags at the lifeguard stations on the central beaches of Tzinbari, Berniki, and Shikmim to protect the lives of bathers.
Due to the extreme weather conditions and fierce winds, bathers were cleared from the water and asked to exit to the shore immediately. The control room of the Kinneret Cities Association stated that the decision was made in light of the wind intensity, which poses a real danger to public safety, especially at the peak of the bathing season.
The event occurs at the onset of an especially heavy heatwave, with extreme heat loads expected across the country. In the Jordan Valley, temperatures may reach 46 degrees, while in the Arava and Kinneret areas, temperatures between 44 and 45 degrees are expected, continuing to draw crowds to the beaches despite the challenging conditions.
