PSG President Al-Khelaifi Invokes Diplomatic Immunity in French Probe
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi invoked diplomatic immunity and skipped a French police summons regarding allegations of detaining and torturing a lobbyist in Qatar in 2020.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi Invokes Diplomatic Immunity in French Investigation
Paris Saint-Germain president and influential European football figure Nasser Al-Khelaifi failed to appear before French investigators probing allegations of kidnapping, illegal detention, and torture. The case centers on claims made by French-Algerian lobbyist Tayeb Benabderrahmane regarding events in Qatar in 2020.
According to reports published by Le Parisien, Al-Khelaifi invoked diplomatic immunity, citing his status as a minister without portfolio in Qatar. Benabderrahmane alleges he was detained by Qatari security forces in January 2020, held for months, and subjected to pressure and mistreatment to surrender sensitive documents.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings and UN Findings
The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention concluded in 2025 that the lobbyist's detention was arbitrary, highlighting concerns regarding inhumane treatment. Meanwhile, French investigators have questioned other prominent figures, including former minister Rachida Dati, who was interviewed in October.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi requests that the diplomatic procedures related to his summons be fully respected, his legal counsel stated in response to the missed appearance.
The broader French judicial inquiry encompasses serious allegations including organized extortion, conspiracy, and intimidation. The question regarding the validity and scope of Al-Khelaifi's claimed diplomatic immunity remains a central issue as diplomatic and legal channels navigate the dispute.
