Airtel Money Launches London's Largest IPO Since 2021 With 5.3 Billion Pound Valuation
Airtel Money launches its London Stock Exchange debut, raising 529 million pounds in the largest IPO in London since 2021, giving the fintech giant a 5.3 billion pound valuation.
Airtel Money is set to begin trading on the London Stock Exchange today, marking the largest initial public offering in London since the peak years of 2021, according to Bloomberg.
IPO Details and Valuation
Under the offering, existing shareholders including the Qatar Investment Authority and TPG offered 270 million shares at a price of 1.96 pounds per share, raising approximately 529 million pounds ($698 million). The transaction gives Airtel Money a market capitalization of roughly 5.3 billion pounds.
Controlling shareholder Airtel Africa, which is listed in London, and Mastercard may sell an additional 27 million shares after trading commences under the ticker symbol "AMC".
"The offering could provide a strong tailwind for the London Stock Exchange and encourage other companies to list," market analysts note.
Market Conditions and Strategy
Airtel proceeded with the listing despite market volatility and geopolitical uncertainty following the war with Iran, which had previously forced the company to postpone its debut planned for the first half of 2026. To attract investor interest, the company twice reduced its valuation target and opted for a fixed share price rather than a traditional price range.
Airtel Money operates as a digital wallet, enabling users to perform a wide range of financial transactions via mobile phone without a traditional bank account. The company also operates physical branches across Africa to handle utility payments, micro-loans, and merchandise purchases. In the 12 months leading up to June, Airtel Money processed 213 billion dollars in transactions with roughly 53 million active monthly users. The company is headquartered in the Netherlands and maintains offices in Dubai.
