A simple request led to a violent incident last week at a gas station in Ashkelon. Following the arrest of a suspect by local police, an indictment was filed today, Tuesday, along with a request to hold the defendant in custody until the end of legal proceedings.

According to the indictment, the incident took place on August 18. The accused arrived at the gas station and demanded service, but the employee informed him that he was currently assisting another customer. The accused began threatening the worker, and when the employee attempted to distance him, the suspect allegedly pulled out a utility knife, stabbed the worker in the stomach, and fled. The victim was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.

Upon receiving the report, police officers arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation. With the assistance of the Ashkelon Municipality’s surveillance center, officers collected evidence and witness testimonies, which led to the suspect's identification and arrest.

The case has been processed by the Lachish prosecution unit.

Ashkelon station commander, Superintendent Eldad Eliashiv, stated:

"The Israel Police views any incident of violence with great severity, particularly those involving the use of knives in public spaces. We will continue to act against manifestations of violence and ensure that those who endanger public safety are held accountable."
