Adir Miller has long been one of Israel's most prominent cultural figures, known primarily for his secular public image. However, during a recent stand-up performance following Yom Kippur, the popular comedian surprised his audience by revealing that he not only observed the fast but also attended synagogue.

The Yom Kippur Revelation

"I fasted, yes, I fasted. How are people surprised that you fasted?" Miller told the crowd, recounting how audience members reacted with disbelief. "They tell me, 'You fasted?', as if I'm some kind of heretic. I was even at the synagogue, bro." Miller shared that he attended the concluding Ne'ila prayer service. When an audience member playfully noted that he doesn't wear a kippah, Miller responded with humor, later admitting that following the Ashkenazi prayer liturgy can sometimes be a challenge.

"I'm in an Ashkenazi synagogue... I don't always manage to follow the cantor," Miller joked to the amusement of the crowd.

Family Roots and Faith

This is not the first time Miller has revealed a connection to tradition that contrasts with his public persona. During a 2017 performance, he spoke openly about his belief in divine providence, concluding with the words: "I love our country. I love our people. There is no one like God." Furthermore, when asked earlier this year how he would react if one of his children became religious, Miller expressed unwavering parental support.

Miller's bond with Judaism is deeply rooted in his family history. Both of his parents are Holocaust survivors, a background that heavily shaped his upbringing. In his cinematic project "The Ring", which he described as the project of a lifetime, he explored the survival story of his mother and grandmother. He also recently praised the religious Zionist public for their immense sacrifices and bravery during the ongoing war, following numerous hospital visits to wounded IDF soldiers.
